Refund Policy

At LaOtraMirilla LLC, we’re passionate about crafting unforgettable adventures to hidden corners of Spanish-speaking countries, from jungle treks in Guatemala to poetry festivals in Medellín. We get it—plans change, life happens, and sometimes you need to cancel or tweak your trip. Our Refund Policy is designed to be fair and clear, so you can book with confidence. Here’s how it works, laid out like we’re chatting over a coffee in a tucked-away cafe.

Booking and Deposits

When you book one of our tours, you’ll pay a deposit (usually 30% of the tour price) to secure your spot. This helps us lock in local guides, eco-lodges, and festival passes for your adventure. The remaining balance is due 30 days before your tour starts. If you’re booking within 30 days, we’ll need the full payment upfront.

Cancellation by You

Life’s unpredictable, and we’ve got your back. Here’s how refunds work if you need to cancel:

More than 60 days before departure: Full refund of your deposit and any payments, minus a $100 processing fee (we’ve gotta cover admin costs).

30–60 days before departure: We’ll refund 50% of your total tour price. Some costs, like pre-booked lodges or local guides, are non-refundable at this stage.

Less than 30 days before departure: Unfortunately, no refunds, as we’ve committed funds to local partners (think Warao canoe guides or Aymara festival organizers).

To cancel, just email or call us (details below). We’ll process refunds within 14 business days, back to your original payment method. If you’re unsure, reach out—we’ll try to work something out.

Changes to Your Booking

Want to switch to a different tour, like trading Samaná’s beaches for Bolivia’s salt flats? We’ll do our best:

More than 60 days before departure: Free changes to another tour or date, subject to availability. If the new tour’s pricier, you’ll cover the difference.

30–60 days before departure: Changes are possible for a $50 fee, plus any price difference, depending on availability.

Less than 30 days: Changes are tricky, but contact us—we’ll see what’s possible, though no guarantees.

Cancellation by Us

Sometimes, things beyond our control—like weather, safety issues, or local festival cancellations—force us to cancel a tour. If this happens:

We’ll notify you ASAP (at least 30 days before departure, unless it’s an emergency).

You’ll get a full refund, including your deposit, within 14 business days.

Or, we’ll offer to move you to a similar tour or future date at no extra cost.

We work hard to avoid this, partnering with reliable locals to keep trips running smoothly, but safety always comes first.

Travel Insurance

We strongly recommend travel insurance to cover unexpected hiccups like illness, flight cancellations, or lost luggage. It’s not included in our tours, so grab a policy that fits your needs. We can’t refund costs outside our control (like missed flights or visa issues), but insurance can save the day.

No-Shows or Early Departures

If you miss your tour’s start (say, you’re late to the pickup in Flores) or leave early (maybe the jungle’s too wild), we can’t offer refunds or partial credits. We’ll miss you, but the show must go on for the group!

Special Circumstances

Got a unique situation, like a family emergency or a visa snag? Contact us, and we’ll review your case. We can’t promise a refund, but we’ll try to be flexible—maybe a credit for a future tour, depending on the situation.
